Peach Season!

It’s July!

The kids are out of school and it is hot. The good news is that it is almost peach season. If you’ve never had a fresh peach ripe from the tree you are missing out on life’s little pleasures. They very well could be my favourite fruit, it is a toss up between raspberries and peaches.

crate of reed fruitWhy peaches? It started when we were little. I can still remember taking a trip out to Harrow with my mom and siblings in order to pick up some peaches to freeze. My mother would have to specifically tell us not to eat any on the way home…. it didn’t work. We tried to quietly eat them but we’d end up covered in peach juice and we ate plenty during the half an hour drive home.

Now you may be thinking, ‘what is so special about them?’ And I can understand your confusion if you have never eaten a peach from Essex County. They are simply the best, no question.

You have to eat them leaning over otherwise you get juice all over and the taste is hard to find in a grocery store. In fact, I can’t bring myself to buy peaches from a grocery as they simply can’t compare.

Moral of the story, if you have the chance, go for a drive and find the nearest peach orchard and buy them. You will not be disappointed.
